The Bronx

The Bronx is the only New York City borough that is located on the mainland. The Bronx is named after Jonas Bronck, a Swedish man who emigrated to the United States. The Bronx is mainly known as the home of the New York Yankees.

The Bronx is divided by the Bronx River. The Bronx’s cultural mixup consists mostly of African-Americans and Hispanics, particularly from the Caribbean Islands and Puerto Rico.

Neighborhoods in the Bronx include East Bronx, West Bronx. Both the West Bronx and East Bronx contain mostly low-income housing complexes and single-family homes. Another well-known Bronx neighborhood is the South Bronx, which happens to be the home of the New York Yankees. The South Bronx has some of the poorest neighborhoods in the country, as well as very high crime areas.

Some of the popular attractions located in the Bronx include the New York Botanical Garden as well as the world-renowned Bronx Zoo.
