Trinidadians don’t really have a formal dinner time and many locals tend to eat when they are hungry. That is why there are so many street vendors selling food all over Port of Spain.

As long as you are in Port of Spain, you can will never die of hunger. In the city, there is no shortage e of small restaurants or street vendors selling rotis and double on their mobile canteens. In many of the large cities, it’s quite easy to find food on the streets at any time of the day.

At any time of the day or night, you can always find somewhere to eat. In certain neighborhoods, like Saint James, you can get a healthy dose of the local cuisine for less than 25TT$. This usually enough money to buy a roti on the street or bake and shark on the beach. You can also find some pretty good food in local Indian or Chinese canteens but that will cost you a bit more (around TT$35).

There is also a strong presence of the larger restaurant chains in the larger cities, with the most notable being KFC and Royal Castle which are quite popular. However, if you are looking for more high-end dining, choices are quite limited. Moat Trinidadians are not used to dining outside and often eat their main meals at home. In the last couple of years, various high-end restaurants have been popping up. These high end restaurants are usually quite good and quite comparable to restaurants you would find in North America but their prices tend to also be on the higher end.

The only places that offer a very good dining selection for tourists are Port of Spain and Tobago. Everywhere else, including the north coast offer very little choices and restaurants a harder to find. Some restaurants are closed during certain weekdays so you should always call in advance to avoid surprises. It is almost impossible to find any restaurants that are open on Sunday and you should always remember to leave a tip.
