CN Tower

The CN Tower is one of the World’s Tallest Tower and one of Toronto’s most popular attractions. Standing at 553.3 meters (1,815.4 feet), it was once the world’s tallest free-standing structure and the world’s tallest tower. The CN Tower is more than just an observation tower. The Tower is Toronto’s most recognizable and celebrated landmark and is the center of tourism in Toronto. Standing at 553.33 meters (1,815.5 feet), it was once the world’s tallest free-standing structure and the world’s tallest tower. The tower measures 553.33m (1,815 ft. 5 in.) The Glass Floor and and Observation Deck is located at 342m (1,122 ft.). the Sky Pod is the world’s highest public observation deck at 447 m (1,465 ft.) The CN Tower is more than just an observation tower. It features terrific dining, fantastic rides and a wonderful family environment.

History of the CN Tower

The CN Tower has been a part of Toronto’s landscape for more than 35 years. It is arguably Toronto’s most famous attraction, drawing millions of visitors from around the world every year. Construction on the tower began on February 6, 1973 with massive excavations at the tower base for the foundation. The CN Tower opened to the public on June 26, 1976, although the official opening date was October 1, 1976. In 1995, the CN Tower was designated as one of the Seven Wonders of the modern world, in great company with other wonders such as the Panama canal, the Golden Gate Bridge and the Empire State Building.

Activities at the CN Tower

The CN Tower is a great attraction for the entire family. Activities at the tower include simulated rides, movies, arcades and many other kid-friendly activities. One level above the CN Tower sits the 360 Restaurant. This revolving restaurant takes about 72 minutes to do a complete rotation while providing a fine dining experience. The seats about 400 people and can only be reserved online or by calling way in advance. The CN Tower also features a wine cellar that is currently in the Guinness book of World Records as the Highest Wine Cellar in the world. The cellar features over 9,000 bottles of wine, mostly from Ontario.

Elevators of the CN Tower

The six high-speed glass elevators of the CN tower reach the top of the tower in under one minute. This feat is quite impressive when you consider that the CN Tower is 1,136 feet in height. These elevators travel at speeds of up to 15 miles per hour. Three of the six elevators also have a glass floor allowing you to beneath you as you rise towards the tower.

The views from the CN Tower

The CN Tower provides wonderful views of the city of Toronto. The breathtaking views of the city can be seen from the Look Out level while down below is the Observation Gallery featuring the Glass Floor. The glass floors of the observation tower is the most popular feature of the CN Tower.

EdgeWalk at the CN Tower

EdgeWalk is CN Tower’s newest, and probably, most thrilling attraction. It’s the first attraction in North America that offers a full circle hands-free walk on the ledge encircling the CN Tower’s main pod, which sits at 365m/1168ft (116 stories) above the ground. Visitors get to walk around attached to an overhead safety rail with trained EdgeWalk guides. With the EdgeWalk experience, you get to experience the magnificent views up-close and personal. EdgeWalk is operated from May to October.

The CN Tower Lights

The CN Tower features an LED lighting system that was designed to enhance the architecture of the CN Tower. This energy and cost-efficient lighting system can display thousands of colors. The most common colors that are displayed by the lighting system are the colors of Canada: red and white.

The Meaning of the CN Tower

The CN in CN Tower stands for Canadian National, which was the Canadian railway company that originally built the CN Tower in order to broadcast signals over the many tall skyscrapers in downtown Toronto. The plan was to make the CN tower a large telecommunications building. It eventually evolved into a great tourist attraction.

Tips for Visiting the CN Tower

The following are some very useful tips when visiting the CN Tower:

  • The CN Tower is open very early and closes very big, in fact it opens at 9 AM and closes at 10 PM. Therefore you can always beat the crowd by arriving before 11 AM or after 7 PM.
  • Enjoying both day and night views of the Toronto skyline by visiting just before sunset and staying a while after.
