Extensive conservation work started on the clock tower and the clock itself in 2017. For several years, the tower and the clock dials were covered in scaffolding. During the work, the chiming of the bells stopped but have since resumed in November 2022. At time of writing, conservation work is ongoing inside the clock tower so it is not possible to visit the clock tower. Public tours of the clock tower are not available at time of writing; however, it is possible to take a tour of the Palace of Westminster. Please check the schedule before visiting. Dress appropriately: The tour of the clock tower involves climbing many stairs, so it is important to wear comfortable shoes and dress appropriately for the weather conditions. Be aware of security measures: The Houses of Parliament and Big Ben are high-security areas, so visitors should be prepared to go through security checks before entering the premises.
