While visiting Trinidad, you will have an endless choice of drinks to choose from. There are many popular drinks in Trinidad & Tobagao wbut the island also has specialty drinks that can only be found in Trinidad & Tobago. There are 3 popular specialty drinks that are distinctively from Trinidad and Tobago. They are sea moss, mauby and sorrel. Because Trinidad and Tobago are both blessed with an abundance of fruits, it’s no wonder that fruit juices are popular in Trinidad. Juices are often prepared in cocktails or in “punch” as Trinidadians call it. Another popular drink is Coconut water, which is often served fresh by using a machete to cut open the coconut.

Sea moss

This unique seaweed shake comes from Trinidad and said to help men retain their virility. Men in Trinidad will tell you that sea moss is an elixir and aphrodisiac.

Mauby

Mauby is a type of tea or syrup made on many Caribbean islands. It has a distinct flavor that some say resembles root beer. Unlike root beer, mauby, which can also be spelled mabi, maby, and mavi, tends to have a fairly bitter aftertaste. It is by far one of the most popular beverages in T&T, among both native residents and visitors alike.

Sorrel

Sorrel is made from the sepals of the Sorrel flower. It is typically a drink mde religiously at Christmas time in Trinidad and Tobago.

Local Beers

There are 2 popular brands of local beer to choose from: Carib, which originates from Trinidad but is sold all over the Caribbean and Stag, which is often more bitter  than Carib.

Rum

Rum is by far, the most popular drink in Trinidad. Trinidadians drink rum with coke, or fruit juice to create rum punch or even in coconut water. Most Trinidadians have a strong tolerance for rum and they will often continue to drink well into the night.
