Toronto has a very reliable mass transit system. The city features 68 km (42.5 miles) of subway line, 306 km (190 miles) of streetcar track, and thousands of kilometers of bus routes to get you around the city. There is no doubt that mass transit is the most reliable, and often cheapest way to get around the city for visitors. The TTC offers quick and convenient transportation throughout Toronto. The TTC operates streetcars, buses and subway trains around the city of Toronto and the Greater Toronto Area (GTA).

Toronto Mass Transit Schedule

Toronto’s public transit system is accessible throughout the day and night, with subways running Monday through Saturday from 6 AM to 1:30 AM and on Sundays from 9 AM to 1:30 AM. Most buses and street cars in Toronto run from 5 AM to 1:30 AM and most have a reduced schedule on weekends. Many of the streetcars located in downtown core operate all night long.

TTC Transfers

When boarding any of the TTC’s buses, streetcars, with a single fare, remember to always ask for a transfer. You never know when you may need it and you will not be able to get another one once you have boarded.

TTC Transit Fares

In order to board a streetcar, bus or subway train, you need to have a ticket, pass or transfer. TTC Drivers do not sell transportation fares and do not carry change so make sure to plan ahead. Note that tickets, tokens and passes can be purchased at subway station booths and other areas throughout the city of Toronto. If you plan to use public transportation during your entire visit to Toronto, you may want to consider the TTC Day Pass or other passes available by the TTC. Public transit fares are pretty reasonable in Toronto. A one-way fare, including transfer cost you C$2.50 anywhere within the city. The price mentioned above is lower for children, students, seniors. You can get further information about Toronto’s mass transit system by visiting the TTC website located at www.ttc.ca

Special TTC Passes

The Toronto TTC offers various day passes or multiple token options to choose from. These are sometimes the best options when visiting Toronto. The following are some of the most talked options for visitors:

single day passes: with a single day pass, you can ride all over the city of Toronto one fixed rate.

Family day passes: a family day pass miles, up to six members of the travel throughout any of the TTC’s regular routes across Toronto.

GTA weekly pass: if you are trying to use the TTC very regularly during your stay and plan to travel across the greater Toronto area, then you may want to consider the GTA weekly pass. This pass is valid from Monday to Monday.

When getting around Toronto, your best option is usually the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC), Toronto’s reliable and very convenient public transit system.
