Rogers Centre<\/strong>, formerly known as SyDome<\/strong>, is Toronto\u2019s multi-purpose stadium and one of the most vibrant entertainment centres in the world. Since opening in 1989, the Rogers Centre has received awards and accolades in the stadium entertainment industry. Rogers Centre is the home of the Toronto Blue Jays Baseball Team<\/a> and the Toronto Argonauts Football Team<\/a>. Every year, more than 200 events are hosted at the Rogers Centre. It is one of Toronto’s top tourist attractions<\/a> and a model for architects of future domed stadiums currently being built around the world.<\/p>\r\n\r\n

Events at the Rogers Centre<\/h2>\r\n

Rogers Centre is home to Major League Baseball\u2019s Toronto Blue Jays<\/a>, the Canadian Football League\u2019s Toronto Argonauts<\/a>. Although the Rogers Center is mostly a sporting venue, it holds various other large-scale events. Conventions, concerts from some of the world\u2019s top performers, soccer matches, motorsports, family shows, trade shows and private events are some of the other events held at Rogers Stadium. The facility’s capacity ranges from 5,000 to 60,000 for sports events, concerts, family shows, trade shows and conventions. <\/p>\r\n\r\n

History of the Rogers Centre<\/h2>\r\n

The facility was completed in 1989. The venue was noted for being the first stadium to have a fully retractable motorized roof, as well as for the 348-room hotel attached to it, with 70 rooms overlooking the field. Over 2,000 events have been staged and more than 60 million people have visited Rogers Centre. In 1997, the facility hosted a record of 302 event days with announced attendance for events and tours of 4,500,000, making it one of the busiest venues in the world. Formerly known as SkyDome<\/strong>, the stadium was renamed “Rogers Centre<\/strong>” following the purchase of the stadium by Rogers Communications, which also bought the Toronto Blue Jays, in 2005<\/p>\r\n\r\n

Awards for the Rogers Centre<\/h2>\r\n

The venue was noted for being the first stadium to have a fully-retractable motorized roof, as well as for the 348-room hotel attached to it, with 70 rooms overlooking the field. It is also the most recent North American major-league stadium built to accommodate both football and baseball. From 1996-1998, the facility also received the prestigious “Prime Site of the Year Award<\/em>” from Facilities Magazine and recently won the Toronto Tourism Award for “Employer of the Year.<\/em>” For four consecutive years, the facility received the “Stadium of the Year Award<\/em>” voted by Billboard, Amusement Business and Performance Magazine.<\/p>\r\n\r\n

Getting to Rogers Centre<\/h2>\r\n

The Rogers Center is located in the heart of downtown Toronto, near the CN Tower<\/a> and the Air Canada Centre<\/a>. It is easily accessible by subway (Union Station or St. Andrews Station), by Streetcar (King Street, Spadina Avenue or the LRT) and by GO Train and GO Bus. It\u2019s also easy to drive to the Rogers Centre, but parking is often limited.<\/p>\r\n\r\n
