History of the University of Toronto

With more than 68,000 students, the University of Toronto is Canada’s largest university and among its most prestigious. The university was founded in 1827 and has since expanded across several campuses and 10 teaching hospitals in the Toronto area. The vast majority of Toronto students are undergraduates, and most are enrolled in the Faculty of Arts & Sciences. The university emphasizes its commitment to teaching and research and boasts that 10 Nobel laureates have taught on its faculty.

The Toronto campus of University of Toronto is located in and around downtown Toronto, north of the Financial District in Downtown Toronto. The architecture of the university is a combination of Neoclassical, Romanesque and Gothic Revival buildings spread across the campus. Some of the buildings have beautiful neo-Gothic architecture such as the popular Hart House. Many newlyweds take their wedding pictures in the picturesque scenery of the downtown Toronto campus. Many films have also been filmed on this campus. The University is sustained environmentally by three green campuses, where renowned heritage buildings stand beside award-winning innovations in architectural design.
